Military families in 5 key military cities will gain access to quality and affordable child care
ARLINGTON, VA —June 24, 2025. The Armed Services YMCA (ASYMCA) and Navy Federal Credit Union announce a national partnership to expand access to affordable, high-quality child care and summer camp programming for military families across the country. The collaboration will help to fund programs for child care in five key military markets, including Killeen, TX; San Diego, CA; Honolulu, HI; Hampton Roads, VA; and Fayetteville, NC. Resources will be directed toward expanded capacity, program development, and much-needed support for working military families during the summer months and throughout the school year.
“Affordable and reliable child care is not just a convenience, it’s a critical component of readiness for military families,” said William French, Vice Admiral, U.S. Navy (Ret.), President and Chief Executive Officer, Armed Services YMCA “Our partnership with Navy Federal Credit Union allows us to meet that need head-on, creating real, lasting impact for those who serve our nation.”
Finding quality, affordable child care is often a particular challenge for military families, adding to the list of unique stressors already facing many active-duty servicemembers and their spouses. Seeking to ease this burden, the partnership between ASYMCA and Navy Federal will help reduce financial stress on military families while enhancing their quality of life and addressing a key area of military readiness for the nation as a whole.
“Navy Federal is deeply committed to supporting every stage of our members’ military experience and financial journey,” said Dietrich Kuhlmann, CEO of Navy Federal Credit Union and a member of ASYMCA’s National Board. “Through strategic partnerships that champion our communities, we are going beyond banking to address the immediate needs of our military families.”
This initiative builds on the long-standing relationship between ASYMCA and Navy Federal, both of which are military-centric organizations. The partnership will support summer camp programming, before and after school care, and transportation to bridge the gap for military families who need access to expanded child care programs.
