The Armed Services YMCA’s inaugural Boots of the Brave Gala, chaired by Lora and Walker Bush, is a night to celebrate the bravery and heroism of our active-duty service members and recognize the partners and staff that make our mission possible. This year we will honor heroes who have made a difference in our battle against food insecurity. These ‘Hunger Heroes’ have led the way in partnering with us to increase our capacity to provide food access to military families with dignity, in a sustainable and scalable way. Last year, their efforts helped the ASYMCA serve 3.5 million pounds of food to over 100,000 people in military households.
The event features an Honor Walk auction, award-winning live entertainment, playfully sophisticated cuisine, and A-list guests.

The theme is intended to focus on the lived experiences of those who serve by capturing their stories through design and works of art. Boots of the Brave is storytelling through art—a metaphorical walk in the shoes of our brave men and women in uniform, and their families.
The frequent relocations required of military service often leave families without immediate access to affordable child care, and military spouses lose out on career advancement opportunities, limiting their earning potential. These unique challenges frequently require military families to try to make ends meet on a single income.
