Operation Hero Hidden Helpers

Strengthening Our Hidden Helpers

The Armed Services YMCA is proud to partner with the Elizabeth Dole Foundation Hidden Heroes and Wounded Warrior Project to support the families of wounded, ill or injured veterans — and specifically Hidden Helpers, the children in caregiving homes — by inviting them to attend one of our Operation Hero programs at Fort Liberty, Fort Bliss, Fort Cavazos, and Hampton Roads military families.

About This Program

Hidden Helpers are the children, youth, and young adults (up to age 18) who are actively involved in hands-on care, or are currently impacted by the care needs, of a wounded, ill, or injured service member or veteran.

Armed Services YMCA’s Operation Hero is a no-cost program for military children in grades 2-8 who may be struggling socially or academically at school or home. Operation Hero is typically delivered as an enrichment module during an after-school program or at one of our ASYMCA Branches.

Trained facilitators create a safe, fun and supportive environment for military children to explore a variety of topics, express their feelings, receive academic assistance, learn coping skills, and connect with peers experiencing the same challenges and sense of pride.

Topics include: Self-Esteem, Respect, Responsibility, Honesty and Integrity, Feelings and Caring, Separations, Problem Solving and Teamwork, and Friends and Family.
